Lund is known for its particularly active student life, revolving around three central structures: Student Nations, Akademiska Föreningen, and student Unions. The nations in Lund are a central part of the university's history, initially serving as residential colleges for students, organized by geographic origin. The Executive Director of External Affairs represents LDK both within and outside of Lund University and works closely with the other student unions to promote the interest of doctoral students.

The student nations were established in the 17th century and ever since have served as a second home for Uppsala University students. At a nation, you can have a coffee and read the newspapers from your home town, study, borrow books from the nation’s library, or play and sing in one of the many student choirs and orchestras.

1833 bestämmer man sig för att dela upp den skånska nationen i 6 avdelningar: Lunds-, Lunds distrikts-, Malmö-, Landskrona/Helsingborgs-, Ystads- och Christianstads afdelning. Sydskånska Nation has, in my opinion the most diverse musicscene in lund with 3 different clubs rotation between pop - hiphop - house. They also have Café Matiné wish is a film cafe, aka food + film.
